NUFFNANG

For those who likes Swiss or Western Cuisine..You would probably heard of Edelweiss Cafe which is located at Armenian Street in Penang..

As for those who are familiar with the name Edelweiss..You would probably knew that Edelweiss is the name of a flower..hence the flower logo which is above the "i" in the Edelweiss Signboard..

It was just my Mum, Me and Jye for dinner that day..and since I have never been to Edelweiss..I decided to give it a try..

Edelweiss Signboard

Notice the flower which I mentioned above the "i" ?? Yes..that's the Edelweiss flower..

Main Entrance

Here's the main entrance..It does have vintage and country style..

Roman Clock

That's a huge clock..!! but it looks nice..reminds me of the Grandfather Clock..

Bar

There are two bars in the restaurant..this one above..is the main bar..look at the design on the wall..brings back the feeling of the "Baba and Nyonya" era..

Dressing Table

Look..I found this mini dressing table which is now used to keep table mats and condiments..At first I did not notice the dressing table..then Mum told me..its an old wooden dressing table..then only I noticed..how cute it is..

Ice Water

We decided to have Ice Water instead of ordering any beverages..

Salad

Salad ( Closed Up )

My main Course which is the Alpen Macroni and Cheese comes with plate of Salad..

The Salad consists of Cherry Tomatoes, Fresh Lettuce and Cucumbers topped of with Thousand Island Sauce..

For Sale

There are clothes ( printed with Edelweiss Logo ), Postcards, Bookmarks and Books for sale In support of the upkeep of the building/cafe..

Alpen Macaroni and Cheese ( Creamy )

Alpen Macaroni and Cheese ( Closed Up )

Here's my main course..the Alpen Macaroni and Cheese..There is a choice of Creamy of Dry for the Macaroni and Cheese..and I picked the Creamy Sauce..

The Macaroni is baked with Potatoes and Onions..and topped off with Cheese..

Personally..I did not really like my main course..as it was suppose to be Creamy instead of Dry..and the Macaroni was not well-cooked as it was not tender to chew..
However, I liked the potatoes..which is soft on the other hand..

A bowl of Alpen Macaroni and Cheese will cost RM25.00..

Kurt's Specialty

Kurt's Specialty ( Curry )

Mum and Jye ordered the same dish...Kurt's Specialty..This is probably a dish created by the Owner, Kurt and his Wife..It has a mixture of Swiss and Indian taste..

The Curry is probably the idea of Kurt's wife who is an Indian..She is friendly and nice..
Many of the dishes has adopted the Indian Style of Cooking..

Jye said..he did not really like the Chicken from the Curry..but I do like the taste of the Curry..It's mild..and not spicy..

Kurt's Specialty will cost RM23.00 per portion..

Dessert

Dessert

I have to apologize..as I have forgotten the name of the Dessert we ordered..

The dessert we ordered comes with Slices of Peach, One Banana sliced into half, One scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream, Fresh Creams, and Sprinkles of Almonds and Chocolate Rice..

I really love the dessert..Mum and Jye liked it too..it tasted sweet and sour at the same time..the peaches and banana goes along with the Ice Cream..*Yummy*

One serving will only cost RM19.00

Old Ice - Kachang Machine

Spotted this old Ice Kachang Maching on the way to the toilet..

Unique Design

Notice

 Can You Spot the Difference?

A unique decoration which is located at the back of the Restaurant..Read the Notice ( second picture above ) which instructs you to pull the string gently until the end to verify the above..

Once the string is pulled..there is a siren and a Skull will appear from the toilet bowl..!!
Very unique..but weird at the same time..

DAYLIGHT SESSION

Last Sunday ( 18th July 2010 ) was my dear friend Connie's Birthday..We decided to have lunch on Saturday ( 17th July 2010 ) as an early celebration for her..At first we wanted to go to Ingolf's Kneipe..but we changed the venue due to full reservations..

So Khai Sin suggested Chin Kang Hu, which is a newly opened Japanese Restaurant owned by a friend's father..

Those present for the lunch celebration was Khai Sin, Elizabeth, the birthday girl Connie, Me, Jye and Phui Leng..

 Connie with Her Birthday Cake

Here's an idea of what I'm about to blog..Connie with her birthday cake should be the first picture before anything else..=) There will be more pictures below after the food..

And now..let's take a look at the place before going further..

Main Entrance and Corridor

Here's the main entrance of the Restaurant..Love the pathway and the bamboos as a divider does compliment the Japanese Theme of the Restaurant..

Alternate Entrance

It is suppose to be the back entrance..but I wonder why they never use it..It looks like its under construction or something..

Mini Pond

I actually saw this mini pond on the way out..didn't notice it when I came in..but I think it looks very nice..

Condiments and Chopsticks

Neatly and nicely presented..

Salmon Mayo Temaki

Salmon Mayo Temaki ( Closed Up )

Jye was hungry on that day..so he ordered a side dish apart from his main course..the Salmon Mayo Temaki..

Salmon Mayo Temaki is handrolled with Salmon, Mayonaise, Cucumbers, Lettuce and Rice..It somehow looks different from the picture shown in the Menu..I wonder why..
The Salmon Mayo Temaki costs RM5.00 per portion..

Chawan Mushi

There is someone else who was very hungry as well..Khai Sin..She ordered the Chawan Mushi as an appetizers before her main course arrived..
Chawan Mushi is a steamed egg custard with Chicken and Crabsticks as ingredients..

 Tongkatsu Don

Tongkatsu Don ( Closed Up )

Finally our main course arrived..The Tongkatsu Don is ordered by Eliz..

Tongkatsu Don is a breaded deep fried Pork Cutlet with Onion and Eggs in a Bowl of Rice..
It also comes with a bowl of Miso Soup and Pickles..

A set of this will cost RM13.90..

Unagi Bento

Unagi Bento ( Up Closed )

While taking pictures of Eliz main course..mine arrived..the Unagi Bento..

This is quite a common dish to most people as Unagi is a well-known fish in Japanese Cuisine..I felt like having fish..hence I ordered the Unagi Bento..

The Unagi Bento comes with slices of Unagi, Mabo Tofu ( Tofu cooked with Chillies ), korokke ( Deep Fried Potatoes ), Salad ( Tomatoes, Cucumbers and Mashed Potatoes ), and a portion of Rice..

The Bento is accompanied by Miso Soup and two slices of Watermelon for desserts..and all this only costs RM16.90..

Salmon Teriyaki Bento

Salmon Teriyaki Bento ( Up Closed )

Then next to arrived was Connie's main course..

The Salmon Teriyaki is cooked Salmon with Teriyaki Sauce and the Bento has the exact same side dishes as mine..the Mabo Tofu, Salad, Korokke and A portion of Rice..

Phui Leng ordered the same dish as Connie when she came after work..

The Salmon Teriyaki Bento costs only RM15.90..

 Pork Shogayaki Bento

Pork Shogayaki Bento

Since the Bento's seems to be more worth it in terms of portion and price..Most of us ordered the Bento..

Khai Sin ordered the Pork Shogayaki Bento for her main course..Pork Shogayaki are Stir-Fried Porks with Sweet and Salty Sauce which are brownish..The bento also comes with Korokke, Salad, Mabo Tofu and Rice..

All this will only cost RM13.90 which is consider reasonable for the variety of food..

Chicken Teriyaki Bento

Chicken Teriyaki Bento ( Up Closed )

Last but not least..Jye's main course arrived..the Chicken Teriyaki Bento which is one of his favourites..

The Chicken is cooked in Teriyaki Sauce and served with Mabo Tofu, Korokke, Salad and Rice..The Chicken Teriyaki Bento will only cost RM13.90..which is again reasonable for such a big portion..

Double Chocolate Cake

Double Chocolate Cake ( Happy Birthday Connie )

We decided to get a Cake for Connie this year as we seldom buy cakes for her..So I suggested the Double Chocolate Cake from Ritz Cake House which tasted so delicious that Phui Leng and Jye had two pieces..! =)

Light Up the Candles!

Now here's where I'm continuing from the first picture of this posting..I lit up the Candles and persuade Connie to let me take a picture of her with her cake..
The Candles made the picture and her look really nice..She looks so happy..

Blowing the Candles

It was amazing that I manage to take a picture of her blowing the candles..except the candles were still lighting..LOL..It was great to have so many memorable pictures of her..as she doesn't like taking pictures most of the time..

Cutting Cake Ceremony

Finally..she cut the cake..Again..another perfect picture..!

Phui Leng, Me, Connie, Khai Sin and Elizabeth

Thanks Jye for the picture..too bad our friend Jacquelyn was not there..as she had an appointment to attend..

So here's the rating for the Restaurant before going any further..

THE BACK-UP PLAN..!! So..what happens next..? Let's head on to the night session..

NIGHT SESSION

Khai Sin, Me and Connie

Now here we are for the Night Session..It was the first time Connie was willing to go Clubbing with us..and she did enjoyed herself too..

Took our first picture of the night before going into Mois..I looked so pale..Geez..

Hwei Peing, Me, Connie and Khai Sin

It was such a co-incidence when we bumped into our dear old high school friend Hwei Peing a.k.a Emily Tan..She looks so sweet and happy..and must be real successful by now as an air-stewardess..

Since fate brought us together on that day..I suggested that we take a picture together..!

Khai Sin and Connie

I like this picture so much..Connie looks so good in here..She looks so handsome..and so different..nice..♥

 Khai Sin and Me

Love this picture alot too..been a long time since I last take a picture with Khai Sin..There is another picture which I did not upload..it looks like we are at a concert..!

Connie, Me and Khai Sin Again..!

It was so crowded and packed that night..we can hardly move our bodies..and I can hardly dance too..LOL..but it was great..we were all gathered together..and at least Connie is happy..=)

Happy Birthday Again Connie..!

Monday, July 19, 2010

Last week, on the 10th of July - Saturday, me and my friends went for a hike to Pantai Kerachut..I finally got the pictures from Connie..There were all together 6 of us..Me,Jye,Connie,Rachael,Shu-Min and Yi Ting..

It was my first time hiking..and I was expecting for the worst..like me fainting for example..LOL..because I did not have any training or exercise before hiking..

Its not surprising that if I fainted or get too tired along the way..So off we go..heading to Taman Negara ( National Park ), where we started our journey around 8.15am..

First Signboard

Here we are passing the first signboard to show our direction..and we are heading towards Pantai Kerachut..I heard from my Mum that it is a nice place the last time she went when she was young..haha..which was years ago..At that time..I was hoping to see a satisfying scenery when I reach..Hoping my trip would be worthwhile..

So look, our first direction, at the top left..

Pantai Kerachut!

Smooth pathway

Our journey started with a smooth pathway..which is straight with no uphills or downhills..and then I asked Shu-Min.."Wow..is it that easy all along the way?"..haha..and she said.."No..its just the beginning..haha"

Picnic Table

We came across a small Picnic Table which is facing the sea along the way..Seems like a good spot for a picnic..

The First Bridge

Finally we reached the first bridge..which is also the start of the difficult areas to go through..Connie and Shu-Min is far ahead as I was busy taking pictures..LOL..

The Stairway

Im guessing that Connie hates all the steps..LOL..It was our first stairway..and I'm starting to get the hang of it..Hiking was something new and different to me..

Jungle Orchestra

Came across this notice of the Jungle Orchestra as we hike on..The notice says..that we should not rely only on our eyes to enjoy the forest..We should use all our senses including our ears to listen to the sounds of nature, from the sounds of birds chirping and the crocking sounds from the frogs..

Eeww..there better not be any frogs..or I'll panic and jump off the hill..!!

Mini Waterfall

Saw this Mini Waterfall and couldn't help but take a picture of it..The water looks clean and drinkable..LOL..so for those hikers who forgot to bring along their water supply..here's where you can get some..

Second Bridge

As we go along..we came across alot of bridges..this is the one located above the mini waterfall..

 Rest and Relax

Take a rest and relax here if you are feeling tired along the way..Connie and Shu-Min took a stop to rest here while we moved on..

Tricky Slope

We came across a tricky slope..that we needed the help of a rope which is provided to help us along the way..It was slippery and muddy due to the rain the night before..Lucky some of the areas dried up and was safe to walk on..

Second Signboard

Look..the second signboard..looks like we are getting closer now..It says there is another 1320m to go..which is roughly 1.32 km..Wow..

Road not Taken?

This is a weird and big rock separating the steps and I wonder how it turned out to be a triangle..

Dug Out Hill ( Bukit Belah )

The Dug Out Hill has a history which goes back to the days when the hill was used for transporting timbers using Buffalos..It was difficult for the workers to perform their work..and as a result..they used a HOE to dig out a passage..Yes..using a HOE..and here it is..the Dug Out Hill which we are looking at today..

How did they manage to dig out a passage using a HOE? Well..that's for you to figure out..if it was due to the profit they are earning..or was it due to desperation to create a better route..?

Slippery Downhill

Look at how Yi Ting tried her best to go down the steps..It was difficult as I remember that the steps are far in distance..and we need to stretch our legs just to reach another step below..it was slippery and muddy as well..and one of us almost tripped..

Double Bridge

Came across another bridge..which is slightly longer than the earlier ones..

Bridge and Stairway

Here's another bridge..and look at the high stairway that we need to go across..the steps are steep and narrow..it was difficult actually..If you were to slipped and fall..its quite a long way down to the river..

Downhill

Finally we are going downhill..but look..again..narrow and steep steps..Rachael and Yi Ting is like so far ahead..followed by Me and Jye..and behind us is Connie and Shu-Min..

Third Signboard

Oh..Look..900m to go..!! Looks like we are getting closer now..and the adrenaline is rushing in..

Tricky Slope Downhill

Here's another tricky slope..It it advisable to use the rope provided to help you down..and the steps are all narrow..I wonder why they build it that way..? Look at Connie and Shu-Min coming down..

Fourth Signboard

It was after 5-10 minutes and we reached this signboard from the previous one..We were confused as the one before said 900m and now..it says 100m and 5 more minutes to go..We couldn't have hike 800m in less than 10 minutes..isn't it..?

I wonder how they calculated the distance..

The Finale!

As I walked on..I heard the sounds of water and bubbles..then I knew we were reaching the beach soon..From far..we heard Rachael and Yi Ting cheering on for Connie..as we are about to reach our destination..

Few more steps and here we are..I saw the bridge..and I was so relieve..and glad that I made it through the journey - without fainting..! LOL..I can tell we are still quite high above sea level..

On the Bridge

Here we are..on the bridge..walking towards Kerachut Beach..the sun was beginning to play its role..it was bright and hot...but the view was amazing..

Breathtaking Scenery

Seriously a breathtaking scenery..it looks like a picture taken from some kinda website which features beautiful places to visit..it is too real that it looks like I'm not the one taking the picture..LOL..unbelievable that there is still such beauty which is not polluted..!
Makes me think that my decision to go..was a right choice.. Mum once told me the sand is rough and big in size..and she was right..!! It feels like a massage when you walked on it..

Victory Picture

Jye took a picture of the five of us..standing at the end of the bridge..sort of a victory picture to show that we have all made it to the end..=)

Kerachut Beach Signboard

Here's to prove that we are really at Kerachut Beach..

Another breathtaking Scenery

I was thinking..did we hike that far..? Over all those hills...? Then I realised it is that far but the journey was not long..as it was shorten by all the shortcuts..

Me and Connie

I seldom take any pictures with Connie..So this is a good one..

 Turtle Crossing

Since there is nothing much to do after we took a rest..We decided to head on to the Turtle Beach..where all the newborn turtles are..We took off our shoes as it was hard to walk on the sand..and as a result..our feets are burning from the heat of the sand..

Green Turtle

There was nothing much to see at the Turtle Exhibition Hut..These turtles..are either man-made or they are real and preserve for exhibition purpose..
But..they actually look so real..

Newborn Turtles

Again..I wonder if these are man-made or preserved turtles..these newborns are just so small and cute..

 Four of Us

We decided to go for a walk at the Jetty..and the Sun is getting even Hotter and Glaring..the Picture was taken by Connie..From the left..that's me, followed by Yi Ting, Rachael and Shu-Min..

Five of Us Now

Finally Connie joined us for a picture after persuading her many times..!

Me

I was enjoying the view from the Jetty..the water was so calm that day..no big waves..

The Shadows

Look at our unique shadows..=)

My Favourite Species of Tree

I know it is weird to say that this is my favourite kind of tree..I love the leaves of the tree..as you can form a game out of it..Difficult to describe..but perhaps someday I shall show it to all of you..the game..=)

Love the Sunshine through parts of the tree..

VolleyBall Match

Since Yi Ting brought a Volleyball..they decided to play a game..but it seems like the ball is flying all in the wrong direction..LOL..

Connie and Me Again

It is finally time to go back..So we took the boat..which costs us RM9 per pax..Hmm..Reasonable since we are sharing with another group of people..

Its great to have another picture of me and Connie again..=) Except that my hair look like a mess..!
Behind us was Pak Atan..the Boat Owner..

Rabbit Shaped Rock

Pak Atan showed us a rock which looks like a shape of a rabbit lying down..What do you think? Does it look like a rabbit to you..? =)

Crocodile Mouth Rock

Here is another rock..which has the shaped of a Crocodile's Mouth..this one really looks like a Crocodile..but I can't imagine if there is a real one which is that size..I'll be running for my life..or rather..Swimming for my life..?

Monkey Beach

On our way..Shu-Min told us that is Monkey Beach..Hmm..perhaps..our next trip..?? Hehe..Shall we Connie..?

Fisherman Boats

Finally we are back at the Fisherman's Village at Teluk Bahang..It was a memorable trip..and we were all so hungry that we decided to go for the famous Nasi Melayu located at the Arked Makanan opposite the floating mosque..

I cant wait to for another trip..and it was my first time hiking..such a healthy exercise..and it was great - apart from the back pain I had for the next few days..LOL..
