NUFFNANG

It was day two in Hatyai, and we woke up early and meet up with the rest of the group and headed to the wet market for our breakfast..

Jye

On our way to the wet market..we spotted the same stall we saw on the first day..which sells the butter and sugar buns and tomyam with chicken floss..the lady boss was so nice and invited Jye to take a picture with her stall..and he looks like he is selling those buns now..

Me

Now it was my turn..the lady boss said..I should sit on the motorcycle and take a picture on it..LOLx..

Sugar with Butter Bun and Tomyam with Chicken Floss Bun

Here's a picture of the two buns we bought..Elizabeth bought the sugar with butter and Jye has the tomyam with chicken floss as we have already tried the sugar and butter on the first day..

Otak -Otak

After a short walk..we finally reached the wet market..and I spotted an otak - otak stall..the otak - otaks are freshly grilled on the spot..

Guavas and Mangoes

Ever seen such mangoes..? They are as small as a golf ball size..and it is orange in colour..I heard that it tasted very good..but I wasn't in the mood for any fruits during that time..perhaps the next round then..

Pineapples

I wonder why their pineapples are so small in size..and they have such nice patterns on them..

Dim Sum

Fancy some chinese food..? There is also a dim sum stall..selling all kinds of dim sum..although there are not much varieties..

Chicken Rice

Me and dear decided to buy a packet of chicken rice..which is recommended by Connie to us..
The chicken rice is made out of "sticky" rice..(I do not know the exact term..) and fried chicken accompanied with fried onions..!
This is probably one of the dish which I miss the most from Hatyai..and honestly I have never tasted such a delicious fried chicken..

Porridge

After buying the Chicken rice, we headed to a shop which sells Porridge..which is also one of the famous stalls in Hatyai..Connie actually ordered the porridge without egg..but somehow..they gave her one with an egg..and the egg is raw..! Something different from our malaysian porridge..

Porridge

As for me and dear..we ordered only one bowl to share among the two of us..as we just had the chicken rice..however, ours was without the raw egg..

Both of Us

After finishing our meal..I decided to take a picture with the stall..to show how good the porridge is..

Connie and Eliz

And now it was both their turn to take a picture..

Connie and Eliz again!

Finally after reaching thailand for two days..we finally went on a tuk-tuk..I can't remember the last time I went on a tuk-tuk as it was many years ago in Phuket..The tuk-tuk was spacious..and there were only four of us in there..one ride costs us 20BAHT per person..see how cute the both of them are..

Dear and me

The tuk-tuk was so fast..that my hair was flying around like mad..!

The four of Us

Thanks to the tuk-tuk driver who offered to take a picture for us..

Eliz with me

Look at the stuff me and Eliz bought !! We tried to take a picture with all the stuff together..but it was too much..and unable to fit in the picture...

Swensen Ice Cream

Can you guess how much the swensen ice cream above costs? It costs us only 99BAHT..which is equal to our RM10.00!! LOLx..Cheap!

Fried Kailan and Chicken with Soy Sauce

It was almost time for departure..and before leaving..all of us decided to have our lunch before leaving..hence our only choice was "Choo Char" again like our first day when we arrived..except it was a different shop this time..

Tom Yam and Glass Noodles Prawns

The tomyam tasted much better than the one we had on our first day...and the glass noodles prawns was actually very good..but I was quite full from having too much food in the morning..

After lunch..we headed back to Penang..and reached home around the evening..it was such a wonderful trip..and I'm glad I was able to travel with my friends..I hope there will be another trip to Hatyai in future..!

Friday, February 11, 2011

Last month, exactly on the 8th of January 2011, me, my dear and my friends, Connie and Elizabeth went for a trip to Hatyai,Thailand..and it was such an exciting trip for me as it was my first time going to Hatyai although it is a city which is visited frequently by penangites as it is close to our Malaysian border..!

We woke up as early as 4.00AM in the morning..and got ready for our departure and headed to Connie's house and got ourselves into the van which is taking us to Hatyai..!!
Along the way..we were so sleepy as it was still early in the morning..hence..we slept almost all the way towards the border..!

Me and Dear

We finally arrived at the border after roughly two and half hour..took our first picture of the day with our passports ready in our hands for clearance..!

Stink Beans and Pork Knuckles

After reaching Hatyai..it was time to have our lunch..hence we headed to restaurant recommended by Connie to us...the first two dish to arrive was the Stink Beans which is also known as Petai in Malay and the Huge Pork Knuckles which is seriously huge..!! I like the stink beans..as it was tasty and quite spicy ..as for the pork..I do not like it..which is why I had only one bite of it..!

Seafood Tom Yam

I thought Hatyai would be famous for Tom Yam..but to my surprise..it was not as good as I expected...it wasn't sour nor spicy..but it was too salty..but I wouldn't say it tasted bad..just it should be slightly more spicy..

Crab in Curry Paste and Fried Fish

The Crab which is cooked with curry paste..tasted really delicious and tasty..I wouldn't mind having more of it..as for the fried fish..I'm not sure what breed it is..but I would say it is quite tasty too..

Two Joint Single Beds

After our lunch..it was time to check into our hotel, The Regency..and we finally got into our room..it was clean..and everything was in good order..and the toilet was actually quite clean too..I shared the room with my dear and Elizabeth and Connie stayed with her Aunt in another room..

Assorted Buns

After resting for about half hour..we left our room and headed towards a mall which is just opposite our hotel..On our way, we spotted a small stall selling all the assorted buns above..one which has Tomyam and Chicken Floss filling, another with Kaya and Another which is my favourite..Butter and Sugar..!! Simply delicious..

Cineplex

We shopped for many clothes in that mall during that day and I myself bought two dresses from that place..and as we headed upstairs to take a look at the cineplex..there were many people there waiting for their movie to start..and I think the cineplex was actually build nicely with all the purplish colours..

Thailand Vampires? - Thailand twilght version

We saw this funny poster of a movie which is showing soon..the characters look so funny on the poster..and I can't imagine how the movie actually is..I even wonder if they are females or males..??!!

Foot Long Sausages

After leaving the mall, we headed to 7-11 which is just beside the mall..the 7-11 looks like a mini market which sells many kinds of drinks, food and look..even sausages..!! The four of us shared a cheese foot long sausage..which I can even drool thinking about it now and wishing they have this in Malaysia..

Me and Elizabeth

It was then time to head back to the hotel to meet the rest of the tour group..the picture above was taken in the hotel lift which is so small that we have to cramp ourselves in there..

Mister Donut Selections

Connie said we are going to a hyper market which is actually similar to our Tesco hyper market in Malaysia..it is called the BIG C..LOLx..no idea why that name is given to a mall..
then we came across this donut shop called "Mister Donut"..Connie said it was better than our Big Apple and J.Co..so I decided to give it a try..

Selected Flavours

True enough..some actually tasted better than Big Apple..but I think..not J.Co..to me..J.Co is still my all time favourite..those flavours above..which has filings in it..are so delicious..but those which looks like a ring ( it is actually called Pon de Ring ), does not taste as good as the one with fillings..

In the Hyper Market

We went to the hyper market which I mentioned that it is the same as Tesco..to buy some snacks and sweets...me and dear bought lots of snacks to bring back to our homes..and of course to have something to chew on the way back to Penang the next day..LOLx..

Look at the crowd lining up to pay for their goods...The population is simply overrated..!

After leaving the Big C..it was time to go for our dinner at the FLOATING MARKET!!
We arrived after a short while from the hyper market..and started walking around looking for food..

Can you Guess?

Can you guess what are those tube stuff..? They are POPSICLES! Unique and smart way of preparing popsicles..I actually wanted to try one..but I thought it is better to get it after our meals..but in the end..I did not manage to buy the popsicles..

Egg Crackers

I do not know the exact ingredients used for those crackers above..but they tasted like eggs to me..and it is so good that I had about 3 pieces after Elizabeth bought it..! I should have bought one for myself too..

Creepy Crawlies

As we head on towards the floating market..we saw a stall selling all the creepy crawlies which is also one of Thailand's delicacies..There are grasshoppers..fried maggots..fried worms..? No idea what are the rest..but I do not have the guts to try it out..LOLx..although I have actually tried it once before long time ago when my brother bought it back from Thailand..

Maggots!

From the picture..I guess you can roughly tell that those maggots above..are ALIVE! They were crawling around in the small basket which is also for sale..Eww..I hate creepy crawlies..and I sure hate maggots..!

Both of Us

Finally we reached the bridge which links us to the floating market..me and dear took a picture with the floating market behind us..

Jellies and Assorted Fish Balls

At last we reached the floating market..The long boat was so narrow and bumpy..and I heard from Connie that those ladies actually row the boat by themselves to shore to seel their foods..

Grilled Otak-Otak

This is probably one of the best things I have tasted in Thailand..grilled otak-otak..It is somehow different from our Malaysian Otak Otak which is wrapped up in banana leaf..the one above..is cooked on a banana leaf..till it is slightly crispy..then drizzled with thai sauce and a few pieces of cucumbers are added to finish it off..and it costs only 25BAHT which is our RM2.50...

The four of us actually love the taste..especially me..who even thought of buying more..but too bad I was too full to eat more after walking to the end of the floating market..

Coconut Ice Cream

Jye was so tempted by the coconut ice cream that he decided to have one scoop of it..at first I wasn't that interested in it..but after tasting it..I felt it tasted better than it looks..!
There were also corns sprinkled on it too..

As for the clay bowl..you can take it home after having it..and all you have to pay is 20BAHT which is equal to our RM2.00..

Omellette Sausages

The omelette sausage does not taste as good as it looks to me..maybe because of the chilli  and tomato sauce..Without the sauce I think it would taste better..

Drinks in Clay Mugs

This is something unique which I should have bought more as a souvenir..however I only thought of it after we left the place..
There are many designs of the clay mugs which you can choose any that you like..then choose your drinks and the lady will pour it and give it to you..and again..it will only costs you 20BAHT..and it is so worth it..as you get to take the clay mugs home..

Quail Eggs

Again..one of the best food I have tasted in Thailand..although it looks small and simple..it tasted so delicious that we bought two bowls of it..The quill eggs are cooked to perfection and drizzled with soy sauce to finish it up..it is then placed in a small banana leaf bowl with the shape of a boat..which also costs us 20BAHT per portion..

Satay!

Erm..nothing special about the satay to me..as you can find it everywhere in Malaysia..
but I like that it is served in a banana leaf bowl which also has the shape of a boat..

Just the Two of Us

We actually bought another cup of drink..which is also in a clay mug..except this one has the shape of a love with a couple on it..such a nice design which is also why we both picked it..

Jye

Compare to the earlier picture..you can tell that it is dark by now..and the floating market looks so nice from this point of view..I can say this is one of my favourite pictures..

The Three of Us!

Then it was the three of us..too bad we couldn't capture the floating market behind us..

Me and Him Again

Finally we left the floating market and while waiting in the van for the rest of the group..we took one last picture of the two of us..

After leaving the place..we headed to a huge night market (pasar malam) which sells alot of stuff..such as food, drinks, accessories and the best was Clothes!! Me and Elizabeth were so excited to buy some clothes for Chinese New Year but in the end I only bought one for myself..When we were done with our shopping..we headed back to our hotel..

Clothes!!

Look at all the clothes..!!
The left picture are all my clothes..and on the right are all Elizabeth's clothes..Wow..she can really shop..10 pieces all together for the whole day..! Amazing..!
Finally to end our day..we decided to try some THAI MASSAGE!! I forgot to ask Connie to take a picture for us..all three of the masseuse came to our room to give me, jye and eliz a full body massage, as for Connie she went downstairs to the shop for a foot massage..

I never expect the full body massage to be so cheap..as it costs us only 200BAHT for one and a half (1 1/2) hours..and me and dear decided to give them an additional 50BAHT as their tips..Definitely something which everyone should try when visiting Thailand..!
After our massage..we took a a bath..and went to bed..ZzZzzZzz...

On the fourth day which is also the final day we were in Singapore..we met up with Jye's cousin Siew Wing at her house..She then took us to ION Orchard again by bus to have our lunch..

After looking around for a while..we decided to go to a restaurant called Meatworks..

Meatworks Entrance

The restaurant has sort of a urban jungle theme..

Bar

Bar Counter

Soup of the Day

Me and Dear..ordered a bowl of soup to share among the both of us before our main course as we were both famished during that time..

Mini Garlic Breads

The soup of the day comes with mini garlic breads and it will only cost SGD8.00 per bowl..

Meatworks Special

Jye ordered the Meatworks Special as his main course..it is actually a beef burger which is made up of vegetables, beef patty and various type of dressings..
The burger also comes with a side salad and french fries..and all for only SGD18.00..
The burger tasted great to me..but it would be better if the beef is slightly more tender..

Lamb Rack

As for me..I was torn between the beef and lamb..but at that time..I was actually craving for lamb..hence..I ordered the Lamb Rack..
The lamb rack is tender in terms of texture..and it is accompanied with mint sauce which is also one of my favourite dressing for lambs..along with it..was the mashed potatoes as a sideline and assorted vegetables..
Simply delicious..and the lamb rack costs only SGD 32.00..

Salmon el Funghi

Jye's cousin, Siew Wing joined us for lunch during that day..and Jye said it was his treat..so Siew Wing ordered a plate of Salmon el Funghi which is actually Salmon Pasta..
cooked with herbs and mushrooms..the pasta tasted simple and delicious..
A plate of the Salmon el Funghi costs SGD 20.00..

Hanging Tender

For Phui Leng..she decided to have some beef as well..and go for the Hanging Tender..which is actually imported beef..I'm not sure what dressing it comes with..but it is also accompanied with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables..
The beef has a very tasty taste..but again it would be better if it is slightly more tender..
The hanging tender costs around SGD 26.00

The Silver Cod

As for Darren..he opted for something healthier..the cod fish..it is also accompanied with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables..and a plate of it will costs only SGD30.00..I would say it is consider cheap for a cod fish...

Creme Brulee

Finally after our main course..me and dear decided to have some dessert as we were craving for something sweet after our lunch..hence..we ordered the creme brulee..

Creme Brulee is actually both our favourite dessert..and it comes with strawberry slices as toppings as well as rapsberry and blueberries along side as a decoration...and it costs us around SGD8.00 per serving..

Fruit Punch

Phui Leng ordered the fruit punch to share it with Darren..which costs only SGD10.00..

Hot Mint Chocolate

As for me and dear..we decided to have some hot mint chocolate for our drinks..the hot mint chocolate was tasty but it would be better if it is slightly hotter..

After our lunch..we hanged out around Orchard Shopping malls..and did out last minute shopping...when we were done..we headed back to Jye's uncle's house to refresh ourselves..and head on for dinner..

Illegal Immigrants?

When we were done with our dinner..Jye's uncle fetched us using his van to the MRT station to take the train to Changi Airport..
we had to cramped ourselves behind the van..and it was narrow..and guess what we looked like...Illegal immigrants..!! LOLx..I remember when we were at the back of the van..we were all laughing non stop..as it was so crowded and we were all crushed together..

Changi Airport

It was my first time at Changi Airport..and I was totally amazed by the way the airport was decorated and presented to tourist as well as locals..the place was decorated with a jungle theme..and there is even a waterfall in the middle..!

Slide

There is even a slide in the airport for people of any age to use! From the top floor..you can use it to slide down to the lowest floor..cool..!

Leisure Area

There is a leisure area for passengers who would like to rest before their flights..and the seats are unique with the same of triangles..and the best is it has the view of the departure and arrival area of all the airplaes...

Dear and me

Jye's uncle offered to take a picture for us..with the christmas decorations behind us..

All of us

Again..his uncle offered to take another picture for us..look at Jye..he blinked when his uncle took the picture..! LOlx..

Jye and His Uncle

Now it was his turn to take with his uncle..Look at his uncle who smiles so happily..he is such a nice and kind man to help us and took us for a walk around the airport..

Huge Christmas Decorations

There were huge christmas decorations as we walked along..Somehow I silently wish our Penang or Malaysia Airport has the same spirit to decorate for the christmas occasion..

More Decorations

I'm guessing this decoration is there all along..the grass decorations looks so real..it is as if we are at a garden..

My Dear

Look at him..smiling so happily..it was a random shot though..
It was almost time..and we had to head on towards our airplane..and after boarding..we head on back to our hometown...PENANG..!
