NUFFNANG

Sunday, August 15, 2010

It was a cloudy and cooling afternoon today..and Evon or better known as Phui Leng invited me to go for a drink and lunch..I accepted her invitation as I was supposed to meet her last night but changed the plan as I was too tired to leave the house..

So she suggested Amelie Cafe which is located at Armenian Street..I've heard of this cafe a few times..but this is my first visit...Situated in a small pre-war house...the cafe consist of only four tables and a small open kitchen at the back of the cafe..

When we first reached the cafe..It was full house..!! So we had to wait for about 10-15mins for a table..So for those who intend to visit Amelie's Cafe..try to be early to avoid waiting..=)

Main Entrance

Here's the entrance of the cafe..looks cozy and garden-like from the outside..It was quite sunny when I took the picture..So the inside of the restaurant looks dark from the camera's point of view..

Cheah Kongsi and Amelie's Cafe

Took this picture on purpose for those who intend to visit Amelie's Cafe..Since Cheah Kongsi is one of the popular tourist attractions in Penang..most penangite knows where it is located..and finding the cafe would be easy when you spot the Cheah Kongsi Building..

Dog and Cat Painting/Drawing

So finally, we're in the cafe..The drawing/painting above seems to be the main attraction in the cafe..as I saw many drawings and scribbles of the dog and cat in the guest book from Amelie's customers..I did not take a picture of the guest book thou..and the pen ran out of ink when I was about to pen down my thoughts and suggestions..

Gift and Souvenirs Section

There is a small rack which displays all the gifts and souvenirs from Amelie's Cafe which are for sale..Some of the stuff are unique and uncommon..So perhaps you can grab one for your friends or loved ones when you visit someday..

Peacock Fishes

Beside our small cozy table..there are many bottles which are filled with water, plants and peacock fishes..Such a nice decoration..as compared to other places where their decorations are not as lively and moveable as those fishes..

Amelie's Cafe Menus

Such unique and colourful menus they have at Amelie's..If I guessed correctly..I think they are handmade and the designs are all drawn and created by the owner..! Very Creative.

More Selections

Directly above the kitchen..there is also a written menu which if I guessed it correctly again..the menu changes everyday on the board..perhaps their daily specialty..? Be sure to look out for the blackboard menu when you visit..

Cake of the Day - Chocolate and Almond Cake

Cake of the Day - Chocolate and Almond Cake ( Closed Up )

Since Me and Jye had taken our lunch..we decided to have some desserts instead..Phui Leng said that their cakes are quite delicious..I decided to order the Cake of the Day..which is the Chocolate and Almond Cake..

The Chocolate cake tasted sweet and the chocolate flavour is strong too..It comes with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream..Yummy..I would definitely have it again the next time I visit..and a slice of the Cake of the day will only cost RM8.00..

Tuna Foccacia Sandwich

Tuna Foccacia Sandwich ( Closed Up )

As for Phui Leng..She just finished her morning work..So it's lunch time for her...She ordered the Tuna Foccacia Sandwich..
Jye and Phui Leng said it reminds them of the Subway Sandwich..! LOL..

The Tuna Sandwich is wrapped up in Lettuce and Tuna topped off with Mayonaise Dressing..One thing I like about the sandwich is that it is not dry..and the dressing really does compliment the bread making it slightly moist and easy to consume..!!

Thumbs up for this..!! The Tuna Foccacia Sandwich will cost only RM15.00..

Cafe Mocha and Hazelnut Latte

Hazelnut Latte

I'm in the mood for coffee..for it has been a while since I had coffee..So I ordered the Hazelnut Latte..and the owner recommended the ILLY coffee beans which is tastier and smoother compared to normal coffee beans..It even smells good..! However, it will cost slightly more expensive than the normal cup of Java..

The Hazelnut Latte costs RM12.00 if you choose the ILLY Coffee Beans, and RM7.50 if you choose the normal Java Beans..

Cafe Mocha

Phui Leng said..she wanted something sweet and different..So she ordered the Cafe Mocha..Cafe Mocha is actually a mixture of coffee and chocolate..and it is slighty sweet and bitter in taste..a perfect combination..

She opted for the ILLY coffee beans as well..and the price is the same as mine..RM12.00 for the ILLY Coffee Beans and RM7.50 for the normal Java Beans..
Orange Lassi

Again Phui Leng recommended the Lassi..as it is one of their specialties..There are three choices for their Lassi..Pineapples, Banana and Orange..

So Jye chose the Orange Lassi..which tasted very sour..It would be better if it tasted slightly sweeter and creamier..as it was suppose to be a yogurt drink..=) Most of the cold drinks are served in a Jam Jar..which is unique and charming..

The Orange Lassi will cost only RM8.00 per glass..

ILLY Coffee Menu

Here's the ILLY Coffee Menu..which shows the pricing for different selection of Coffee Shots..

More Decorations

The cafe portrayed a cozy and comfortable ambiance, it is cooling and dim in terms of lighting..and it gives you a homely feeling while dining at the cafe..Look at the above decorations..which consist mostly household utensils and equipments..
The painting on the wall which is partly scrapped off compliments the heritage style of the building and area..as we all know..Armenian Street is one of the Heritage Sites in Penang..!

Me and Phui Leng

It's been a while since we took a picture together..so I suggested we take at least one..! =).. The sunlight from the window makes the both of us look fair and pale..

Me and Jye

Phui leng suggested that we both take a picture as well..Now the background looks too bright..Feels like I'm in heaven..!! In the Heaven of Food..!

So if you are looking for a place to chill..or just to have a drink with your friends, family or loved ones..Head on to Amelie's Cafe..which has a cozy environment and delicious food to savour..!
